Daily News-Mission Heights Primary School visit

4th June 2009
Today 50 Mission Heights Primary School students visited Foguang temple with their parents and teachers. The purpose of this visit by the year 3 and 4 students was to gain an insight into the history, special features and functions of the temple, and its role in the local community. Peter Batten and Ruth Wagner were the guides for this tour. Venerable Hao took the children through some Tai Chi which is always good to keep warm at this time of year. The group were shown a movie introducing the Fo Guang Temple, and learnt that the Temple isn¡¯t only for religious purposes, but also to provide the local community with exposure to different cultures, education and training, with the aim of building a better community. The head teacher Ms Kylie Smith said the visiting students (aged 7 to 9), are exploring and investigating the local Manukau area: The geographic environment, the function and role of the City Council, and the multi-cultural character of the city. Following their visit to Fo Guang temple, the students went next door to visit the recently opened Sir Barry Curtis Park.
